Alan Phillips is Director of Winemaking for Terravant and comes with over 30 years of experience in all aspects of the wine business. Most recently he was the General Manager and Winemaker at Foley Estates Winery where he developed the business and crafted award winning wines for more than a decade. His prior experience encompassed almost 20 years in Napa Valley where he spent 10 years at Monticello Cellars, a premier producer of Cabernet and Chardonnay. Alan graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Enology, and a great background in art and chemistry.
Rochelle and Alan, (Fontes & Phillips) have been involved in the wine industry for 35 cumulative years. Alan started his winemaking career in Napa Valley in 1976 and his career spanned 18 years there with S. Anderson, Monticello and numerous other prestigious brands. Rochelle developed a career in wine compliance and accounting. In 1998, they moved to Santa Ynez to help Bill Foley launch Foley Estates and LinCourt Vineyards. In 2008, they released the first of their own wines under the Fontes & Phillips label. Each wine is handcrafted and sourced from a single vineyard of high renown. Even the bottling and finishing of the package is done by hand. Each bottle is personally labeled by Alan and Rochelle with pewter hand crafted labels from South America.
